News from Representative Allred

Dear Friend,

Since I first came to Congress, I’ve been working to bring jobs home, shore up our supply chains and make more goods here in Texas. That’s why I was proud to pass the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act, which has already invested hundreds of millions in Texas. Last week another $400 million from CHIPS was announced for GlobalWafers in Sherman in North Texas. The funding will help bring critical semiconductor production back to the United States and create over 2,500 jobs in the U.S., including 1,200 construction jobs and 750 manufacturing positions in Sherman, Texas.

Semiconductor chips power our everyday essentials from cell phones to cars. Silicon wafers are a foundational input used in all chips. This CHIPS investment will allow GlobalWafers to establish our country’s first 300mm silicon wafer manufacturing facility for advanced chips here in Texas.

The CHIPS and Science Act is driving economic growth across Texas. It has delivered billions for major companies like Samsung to expand operations in our state, setting Texas up for long term economic success and leadership in high-tech manufacturing. To meet the needs of the rising tech industry in Texas, I’ve secured hundreds of thousands of federal dollars for semiconductor research and workforce training at UT Dallas and supported bringing one of the nation’s 31 new TechHubs to North Texas at Southern Methodist University.

I’m so excited that this investment is coming to our region which has long been a leader in semiconductor and high-tech manufacturing. I will keep working to ensure the CHIPS Act continues to create opportunities to grow our Texas economy.

Sincerely,
