THE SCOREBOARD

Victories for voters in Ohio

  • Ohioans will vote this November on a measure to ban gerrymandering in the state by implementing an independent, citizen-led redistricting commission to draw congressional and legislative districts.

  • A federal judge struck down a 2023 Ohio law that made it a crime for most people to help voters with disabilities return absentee ballots. Ohioans with disabilities can once again be assisted by the person of their choosing.

Giuliani’s D.C. law license is suspended…again

  • Former Donald Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani is again suspended from practicing law in Washington, D.C. while a disciplinary case over his lies about voter fraud in the 2020 election proceeds against him. This follows Giuliani's disbarment in New York.

Insight into dark money groups funding anti-voting lawsuits, threats to democracy, Project 2025

  • Democracy Docket senior staff writer Matt Cohen responded to Reddit users’ inquiries about the far-right’s dangerous agenda in a live discussion today. Questions included:

    • The heritage foundation writes stuff like Project 2025 all the time. Why is this version worth taking seriously?

    • Can you give a logline (short two or so sentence) explainer on Project 2025 I can give to my 80-year-old dad and his friends?

    • It seems both odd and poetic that we need to vote to save democracy. Is there a way to prevent an election-based attack on democracy from reaching the ballot box without losing the democracy in the process?

  • You can read Matt’s answers to these questions and more here and mark your calendar to join Marc for another Reddit AMA on Aug. 7.
