The 2024 presidential race may have changed this week, but our mission remains the same: protecting and expanding vital human needs programs for vulnerable communities.

But, if right-wing politicians and organizations have their way, they’ll undo all of the progress that we’ve made the last few years and instead gut human needs programs.

Project 2025 seeks to redefine what it means to be American, excluding anyone who doesn't fit their narrow, right-wing vision. They want to eviscerate the federal government’s role in helping families meet their basic needs. They want to divide us by race, religion, and sexual orientation. They want to silence dissent, crush independent institutions, and concentrate power in the hands of a few who have pledged their loyalty to a president, not their country.

But even as this plan hides in plain sight, its policies are widely unpopular with the American people. That’s why, last week, we sent more than 72,000 messages to the CEOs of major news networks demanding they educate voters on the threat that Project 2025 poses to the future of our democracy.

This is a critical moment to stand up for the values of justice and equality that make our country great. Because this is a country of the many, not the few.

Over the last three-and-a-half years, we’ve accomplished a great deal in empowering everyday people. President Biden signed legislation expanding the Child Tax Credit, lifting millions of children out of poverty, and allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices.¹ He expanded the Affordable Care Act to reach millions more people while lowering insurance premiums and deductibles.²

President Biden proposed and implemented the Affordable Connectivity Program, which brought affordable internet access to millions of low-income households across the country.³ And, he’s signed into law a corporate profits minimum tax so that billion-dollar corporations don’t get away with paying little to nothing in federal income taxes each year.⁴

Much of this progress is ongoing; some was halted because there were not enough votes in Congress―these advances must be restored. All of this―and a whole lot more―is under threat by right-wing politicians and organizations who want to implement a meticulously detailed, 900+ page policy plan known as Project 2025.

Last week, we directed more than 72,000 messages to the CEOs of major news networks, urging them to provide voters with in-depth coverage of Project 2025, which is an existential threat to human needs and our democracy.

Project 2025 was drafted by the Heritage Foundation and other right-wing groups including The Tax Foundation, which seeks to implement tried-and-failed trickle-down tax policies that further enrich millionaires and billionaires at the expense of critical programs for low-income and working people. It includes:

• Military raids to deport up to 5 million immigrants⁵

• Purging 50,000 civil servants and replacing them with Trump loyalists⁶

• Gutting racial equity programs and climate initiatives⁷

• Taking SNAP food assistance away from families while making it tougher to access to benefits⁸

• Threatening health care coverage for up to 18.5 million Americans via a Medicaid lifetime cap⁹

• Extending the 2017 Trump tax cuts for the wealthy while deepening giveaways to corporations¹⁰

• Shutting down the Department of Education and stripping the enforcement authority of the Office of Civil Rights, and

• Diverting billions of dollars in public school funding to private school vouchers while gutting funding for special education and schools that serve low-income children¹¹

This right-wing agenda seeks to shut down federal agencies ranging from the IRS to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

It would destroy the Department of Education, the Federal Drug Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Labor Relations Board, and much more.

Many critical policies and institutions that we take for granted would be on the chopping block, leading to a lack of consumer protections, environmental protections, and even public education as we know it.

With less than four months until Election Day, we’re fighting to ensure voters across the country know the true threat of this right-wing policy agenda, demanding major news networks cover Project 2025. The American people have a right to know what is on the line this election year and how it will affect our future.
