Good Morning America welcomes our creative writing contest winner, Angela.

Dear John,

The news cycle these last few weeks has been intense. In the months leading up to the election, we can expect even more political rhetoric around the words “immigration,” “asylum” and “the border.”

That’s why we wanted to take a moment and showcase a young voice, sharing her perspective about the United States as a country that welcomes and includes those in search of a better life.

Angela Du, a fifth-grader from New York City, is the 2024 winner of our Celebrate America Creative Writing Contest. Watch her talk about what inspired her to write her poem “Stories of Us” on her interview on Good Morning America:

You can also read Angela’s poem here and learn more about our contest.

For the past 27 years, thanks to support from the MurthyNAYAK Foundation, our Celebrate America creative writing contest has inspired over 100,000 fifth graders to share their stories through poetry, prose, and essays.

Please enjoy Angela’s poetry reading and feel free to share with a friend.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Robbins
