Today is the second day of Earth Day Live. Yesterday, more than 650,000 people joined us online for a powerful day of online climate justice activism ― almost exactly the same number of people as marched in the September Climate Strikes in the US.
Now, for Day 2 of Earth Day Live we are gearing up for a full day of online action to hold the financial sector accountable for its role in the climate crisis ― you can join #StopTheMoneyPipeline Live here!
Today’s online action is being led by the Stop the Money Pipeline coalition, an unprecedented coalition of over 100 organizations that has come together to demand that the financial sector stop enabling climate catastrophe.
Stop the Money Pipeline has identified several key targets ― Chase, the world’s largest funder of fossil fuels. BlackRock, the world’s largest investor in fossil fuels. Liberty Mutual, one of the fossil fuel industry’s largest insurers. Together these companies fund, insure and invest in the fossil fuel industry, providing it with the capital it needs to wreak havoc on our planet
It doesn’t have to be this way. The coronavirus has turned off the global economy. Now is our chance to change the system before we turn it back on. We know that even before the coronavirus crisis, financial institutions were driving us straight off a cliff. Instead of just giving them back the keys we need to take control of the economy and steer it in a new direction.
Can you join the full day of online action to Stop The Money Pipeline and demand climate justice?
There’s an incredible list of leading activists, musicians and celebrities who will be a part of today’s action, including Tara Houska, Joye Braun, Bill McKibben, Patrisse Cullors, Senator Merkleley and Representative Porter and many, many more
This Earth Week, we may be socially distancing, but we can still come together for change ― we hope you’ll join us.
Staying engaged,
Marilyn, Emily, Bonnie, Sara, Phil, Lynn and Lin
