Signature's backstage workers organize
Backstage workers at Signature Theater filed for an election to certify their union and join IATSE 22. "Folk are organizing across the DC area to raise standards, wages & benefits for everyone employed in the arts/entertainment & trade show industries," said Local 22.
Three challengers, two incumbents get labor nod in DC City Council primary
The Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO on Wednesday announced the endorsement in the Washington D.C. June 2 Democratic primary of incumbent D.C. Councilmembers Robert White (at-large) and Trayon White (Ward 8), as well as Jordan Grossman in the open Ward 2 council seat, and challengers Janeese Lewis George (Ward 4) and Anthony Lorenzo Green (Ward 7)."The MWC is proud to be the voice of organized labor with a legacy of accomplishments in the Metropolitan Washington region. Our members vote their values and consider every election important because of its impact on working families," said President Andrew Washington. "We must elect officials who are not afraid to publicly support labor unions and champion legislation for working men and women that protects and lifts the quality of life for the people who work in the District. CSA lands Greater Washington Community Foundation grant
The Metro Washington Council's Community Services Agency is the recipient of a [link removed] Greater Washington Community Foundation grant to provide assistance to workers affected by the COVID-19 economic fall-out. "During this time of crisis and uncertainty, we are inspired by how our generous donors and community partners are stepping up to help us meet the evolving needs and challenges associated with the impacts of coronavirus on this region," said Tonia Wellons, President and CEO of the Greater Washington Community Foundation. "CSA deeply appreciates the Greater Washington Community Foundation's confidence in our work to help Metro Washington workers in need during this unexpected challenge," said CSA Executive Director Sonte DuCote. "This grant boosts our ability to help more members," she continued.
