7 Major Unions Call for
End to U.S. Military Aid to Israel
United Auto Workers Endorses National Mobilization Against Netanyahu's Visit
July 24, 11am at Penn. Ave and 3rd St. NW (note the address)
This is big and the momentum is growing. One of the largest unions in the country, the United Auto Workers (UAW), announced that it will be joining the mass mobilization on Wednesday, July 24, to reject the visit of Benjamin Netanyahu to Congress. The UAW said in a statement: “Netanyahu is set to come to Congress to ask our government to keep supporting this war. We reject this insult to all those calling for peace and justice."
The next day, six major unions joined it in calling for the Biden administration to totally shut off military aid to Israel. “Our unions are hearing the cries of humanity as this vicious war continues,” said Mark Dimondstein, the president of the American Postal Workers Union. “Working people and our unions are horrified that our tax dollars are financing this ongoing tragedy. We need a ceasefire now, and the best way to secure that is to shut off US military aid to Israel.”
The constant mobilization of the past 9 months has produced a new social force that cannot be ignored. The broad coalition for July 24, initiated by the country's leading Arab American, Muslim American and Palestinian organizations, now includes a wide range of community, progressive, labor and faith-based organizations. We will stand together tomorrow against Netanyahu and all the politicians who are complicit in the brutal genocide that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians.
If you're coming from out of town, please make sure you note the address of Pennsylvania and 3rd St. NW. There are other rallies around the Capitol tomorrow, which are not endorsed by the Palestinian community.
We are still in a considerable financial hole due to the many expenses of this mobilization. We need your help to help cover costs and keep the movement strong and moving forward. Make an urgently needed donation here. <[link removed]>
