Greetings from Washington D.C., where I’m in the midst of deep conversations about education and the workforce and, inevitably, what the prospect of a new administration might mean.
At Hechinger, we care deeply about what students have to say, and you can hear the thoughtful views of college students ([link removed]) who attended the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. The article, written by our intern Joanna Hou, herself a recent graduate from Northwestern University, steps back from the political headlines to share youth voices directly. We’ll be bringing you voices from students at the Democratic convention in Chicago next month as well.
The Hechinger Report staff also came together to report what Donald Trump’s next education agenda might look like ([link removed]) , via Project 2025.
The conservative blueprint, drafted by several organizations led by the Heritage Foundation, spells out a vision for dramatically reshaping the American education system. Our staff pulls out the education-related proposals, from early childhood through college. We’ll be watching as the campaign unfolds to learn more about what both Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, likely to be the Democratic nominee, have to say.
In the meantime, Javeria Salman takes a look at an issue close to the hearts of teachers everywhere: Do they follow standard scripts ([link removed]) for how and what to teach or take matters into their own hands – or a little of both?
