We’re all still processing the news about the presidential race on Sunday, but one thing remains certain: The impact of a Trump presidency (and Project 2025 becoming a reality) would be devastating to the health of our environment and democracy.
We have a unique opportunity to stop Project 2025 in its tracks, build on President Biden’s climate progress, and enact the most pro-climate agenda in history. But we can only do it together.
Last night at the RNC, former President Trump said the words we’ve been dreading: “We will drill baby, drill.” And Trump didn’t just promise a fossil fuel boom — he also vowed to shut down any funding for a transition to green energy, calling it “a Green New scam.”
John, this isn’t new. It’s a promise to enact the Project 2025, agenda, and it’s scarier than anything we’ve seen before.
As the public becomes more familiar with the plans laid out in Project 2025, Trump is doing everything he can to distance himself from it, but the proof is in the pudding. The radical agenda is hand-crafted by Donald Trump loyalists — including more than 140 former Trump administration officials and at least SIX of his former Cabinet Secretaries, who have either authored or advised on Project 2025.
Don’t be fooled: If Trump regains control of the White House, he will use Project 2025 as a roadmap to wreak havoc on every aspect of American life.
And while Project 2025 contains PLENTY of disturbing details on how to gut climate protections, this isn’t just about rolling back climate progress. It’s a direct threat to everything we hold dear — personal freedoms, democracy, and bedrock social programs that millions rely on are all at stake.
Here’s a glimpse of what we’re up against if we don't act NOW to stop it:
- 🌍 Climate Crisis Worsened: Project 2025 would gut the Environmental Protection Agency and roll back restrictions on oil drilling. They want to let Republican state officials, who often side with Big Polluters, take over more of the regulation (read: deregulate everything). And they’d stop states from adopting stricter car pollution standards like California’s. This would give Big Oil executives and fossil fuel corporations free rein to exploit and endanger our communities.
- 🗳️ Democracy Undermined: Project 2025 aims to dismantle democratic institutions, gut democratic checks and balances on presidential power, and suppress voting rights. A functioning democracy is KEY to climate progress because, without it, the only people with power are the wealthy and influential, who prioritize profit over the planet. Democracy ensures that every voice is heard and that policies reflect the will of the people, not just a privileged few.
- 🚫 Reproductive Rights Rolled Back: National abortion restrictions, elimination of contraceptive access, and limitations on reproductive health care are at the core of this dangerous agenda.
No matter what happens at the top of the ticket, climate champions and democracy defenders are needed in every office and at every level of government to build a strong firewall against extreme policies being pushed at the national level.
