Arlington Young Democrats Executive Board Endorses Vice President Kamala Harris
for the 2024 Democratic Presidential Nomination
Arlington, VA – After his recent announcement to not seek re-election, the Arlington Young Democrats would like to express our profound gratitude to President Biden for his dedication to this country over his 50 years of public service. We acknowledge Biden’s historic presidency, during which he successfully advanced numerous Democratic priorities that have markedly improved the lives of Americans, as highlighted in the Virginia Young Democrats’ statement.
Historically, AYD remains neutral in primaries as we believe Democratic voters should be the ones to choose our party’s nominee. However, given the historic nature of Sunday’s announcement and early voting beginning in September in Virginia, the Arlington Young Democrats Executive Board recognizes that we must take an unprecedented step.
The AYD Executive Board unanimously endorses Kamala Harris for the Democratic Party Presidential Nominee for the 2024 General Election. This action is in alignment with Democratic organizations from across the country. In addition, we thank Virginia’s DNC convention delegates for their commitment to vote for Vice President Harris at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
Vice President Harris’ legacy is defined by her trailblazing achievements and progressive successes across various policy areas. As the first woman, Black woman, and person of South Asian descent to serve as Vice President, she has shattered numerous glass ceilings. Harris shows her dedication to the American people through promoting equitable healthcare, combating voter suppression, focusing on the impact of climate change on low-income and minority communities, backing immigration and criminal justice reform, and advocating for economic equity. Her historic achievements and policy initiatives have left a lasting impact on American politics, inspiring future leaders who until now did not see themselves represented in government to pursue their dreams.
Vice President Harris is more than prepared to become our nation's 47th President. We are confident that she will continue to build upon President Biden’s legacy while advancing a robust and progressive policy platform of her own.
The Arlington Young Democrats are united in our mission to elect Democrats up and down the ballot. We will continue to support our Arlington ticket, help send Tim Kaine back to the Senate, defend Virginia's 7th Congressional District, and take back Virginia's 2nd Congressional District. AYD is prepared to work tirelessly to help Vice President Harris win the White House and help Democrats reclaim control of Congress.
