Folks, a concerning trend is unfurling nationwide:
A new, year-long study by the Brennan Center for Justice found that the racial voting gap is widening.
Sadly, this comes as no surprise.
People of color have faced obstacles and oppressive legislation deterring them from voting for generations. In 2013, the Supreme Court case Shelby v. Holder amplified this struggle by gutting essential protections for people of color in the original Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Shelby v. Holder originated in Alabama, one of our target states, and its effects are reverberating across the state, our target regions, and the nation to this day.
As Republicans continue to use modern-day Jim Crow policies to target and silence people of color, we must stand together and fight back.
