Hi John,
Time and time again, our legislature chooses to play political games that ignore the will – and safety – of Wisconsinites like you and me. On our ballots in August, we will see two constitutional amendment questions that would impact how federal funds are distributed within our state. Long story short, they would hinder the governor's ability to get critical funding to the people who need it, even in emergency situations. Vote no to avoid adding dangerous red tape to this process.
From our schools to natural disaster relief, the governor’s distribution of funding makes the state function. If these amendments pass, the legislature will be able to hold essential funding hostage. Additionally, the questions are intentionally confusing, so even legal experts don't know exactly what the impact will be if these amendments pass. We love the information the League of Women Voters put together, and would recommend you read it if you want to learn more about the amendments.
Advocates like you have a special reason to turn out and vote no. Federal funding supports lifesaving gun violence prevention programs across Wisconsin, which the legislature could withhold if these amendments pass. We cannot risk these critical programs falling victim to the legislature’s partisan games.
The legislature is trying to take advantage of an election with a low expected voter turnout to give themselves super powers. We will block this power grab by turning out in droves on August 13th and voting no!
