** The news cycle is a vortex
------------------------------------------------------------
Whether or not you live in the US, you have probably been seeing more and more headlines about our presidential candidates. As you might have noticed, the Century does not try to keep up with the 24-hour news cycle. As a monthly magazine, we simply can’t—plus the word “thoughtful” is in our tagline, so we like for our writers to take the time to reflect.
In other words, I have no new content for you related to President Joe Biden’s decision to step down from his reelection campaign. But once in a while we are able to get an insightful piece onto our website shortly after a major event. This is one of those times, as Brandon Ambrosino offers a profound theological reflection on the role of luck in the attempted assassination of Donald Trump ([link removed]) —and the crucifixion of Jesus.
Scroll down for more great new content, like Julian DeShazier’s critique of the church’s obsession with “great men.” ([link removed]) Plus more, including our video of the week with Ross Kane about his July cover story on the tension between anti-colonialism and pro-LGBTQ efforts ([link removed]) .
