Dear John,
Ramadan this week will be unlike any before. Social distancing policies have American Muslims re-thinking essential Ramadan activities like taraweh, community iftars and even our IHOP suhoors. We pray that you and your families have a safe Ramadan, one of comfort, guidance and spiritual growth despite the changes we will navigate.
We understand that the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are not a challenge MPAC faces alone, but something we all are experiencing together. As such, we made adjustments to our operations resulting in cost savings and increased attention to essential programming related to what matters the most, our mission of Improving public understanding and policies that impact American Muslims.
At MPAC, we are recommitting ourselves to this original mission by expanding our efforts to address the grave shortcomings that this pandemic has highlighted. From healthcare to taking care of families and workers, it is clear that our federal government is falling short in prioritizing the safety and welfare of all.
Right now, we are:
* Working to pass meaningful legislation that protects all vulnerable communities and ensures safe and accurate voting in the 2020 elections
* Uniting with Muslim and other faith organizations including American Muslim Health Professionals, Islamic Medical Association of North America, and ISNA as a task force to address the effects of the pandemic on healthcare and policy
* Ensuring your civil liberties are not the price for increased safety during this pandemic
* Inspiring and empowering you through our “Coping in Quarantine” webinar series where experts discuss and share insights on community service, spirituality, mental health, advocacy, and much more.
In the coming weeks, we will share our progress and provide you with opportunities for continued engagement. We ask that as you plan your Ramadan giving, consider partnering with MPAC by making a gift toward our work to build a future free from fear and bigotry.
