Four years ago, President Joe Biden fought for the soul of our nation to defeat Donald Trump and return empathy and respect to the White House. And now, he’s made another decision in the best interest of America to step aside so Democrats have the best chance to keep Donald Trump from returning to the White House.

His term as president has been the most successful in a generation. He guided our nation to recover from the worst public health crisis in living memory, he brokered bipartisan compromise for a massive infrastructure package, and he passed the largest climate investment in our nation’s history.

His selfless decision—to step aside and let a new nominee carry our message—will give us the best chance to protect that legacy of progress.

In light of President Biden’s decision, I’m proud to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris to be our nominee for President of the United States.

Throughout Kamala Harris’s career—as California’s top prosecutor, as a Senator, and as our Vice President—she’s been a champion for hardworking families. She’s a leader in the fight to protect reproductive freedom at a time when those rights are under attack by Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans.

There is no candidate better equipped to take on Donald Trump and protect our democracy, to advance the Biden agenda, and help strengthen our communities in Vermont—and across America.

Kamala Harris has rightfully earned overwhelming support from the grassroots of our party, including the unanimous support of Vermont’s pledged delegates to the Democratic National Convention and the majority of delegates nationwide. Kamala Harris said she wanted to earn and win this nomination. She has—and she’s reinvigorated this campaign.

There are less than four months until election day. This is a moment for all of us to come together and fight every day until then. We must elect Kamala Harris to the White House and protect the values that the American people hold dear.
