Democrat,

Today, Republicans in Washington reached a new low. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell suggested that states like New Jersey should be allowed to go bankrupt instead of receiving the support they need from the federal government.

Governor Phil Murphy did not hold back today in forcefully denouncing McConnell’s bankruptcy plans and once again calling for direct federal support for New Jersey. Watch his response here.

We all know that the federal government’s response to the COVID-19/Coronavirus crisis has been sorely lacking. Governors across the country are pleading with the White House and Congress to do more to help states weather this storm by ramping up testing, providing more essential supplies and, perhaps most importantly, sending direct financial aid to states.

Under the Governor’s leadership, New Jersey is doing everything it can to respond to this crisis and keep us safe. But we simply need more help from Washington to get the job done, and so far we aren’t getting it. Our congressional delegation is fighting hard, led by Senator Bob Menendez who has sponsored a bipartisan bill to bring much-needed federal funding to New Jersey and other hard hit states. But that bill can only move forward if Mitch McConnell lets it.

I’m glad we have Governor Murphy in our corner fighting for our state, our people and our communities. We can count on him to always stand up for New Jersey.

Thank you for your support,

Chairman John Currie
