** Labour's Election Victory!
------------------------------------------------------------

It's an absolute honour and privilege to have been elected as MP for Aberafan Maesteg.

A huge thanks to all those who campaigned for me - and those who put their faith in me at the ballot box. We campaigned in every part of the constituency and spoke to residents all across Aberafan Maesteg.

Whether you voted for me or not I promise to put my all into fighting for you here and in Westminster. We finally have a Labour Government at Westminster after 14 years of Tory rule. I am looking forward to the challenges of Government, and to being able to work hard to ensure we improve the lives of people across Wales, and the UK.

The real work for Labour begins now.

** Appointed Minister of Care for England
------------------------------------------------------------
I am truly honoured to be appointed Minister of State for Care in the Department of Health and Social Care.

I am really looking forward to working with Secretary of State Wes Streeting and the team, as we seek to meet the multitude of health and social care challenges that Britain faces, after 14 difficult years.

** Rhondda Tunnel Society
------------------------------------------------------------

I was honoured to be in Blaengwynfi recently to unveil the Rhondda Tunnel information board. The Tunnel is a game-changing opportunity to bring active travel, tourism & investment to our area.

The unveiling of the board was followed by a public Q and A where local residents were able to provide their thoughts and feedback on the project, and how they’d like to see it come to fruition.

** Labour's Steel Intervention
------------------------------------------------------------

We saw a really important intervention by Jonathan Reynolds, Jo Stevens, Vaughan Gething and Jeremy Miles, who visited the steelworks at the beginning of June.

They came to Port Talbot to convey a clear message to Tata about the future of our steel works, and to re-state Labour’s opposition to any deal that uses £500 million of taxpayers’ money to make several thousand steelworkers redundant

** Emergency Services Family Day
------------------------------------------------------------

It was great to go along to the Emergency Services Family Day to celebrate our local emergency service workers. It was especially lovely to see so many families, and in particular young people, learning about the important work our emergency service staff do.

I pay tribute to the incredible and often thankless work they do to keep us all safe.

** National Florist Day
------------------------------------------------------------
June saw National Florist Day and I was happy to visit local florist Lisa at The Flower Box here in Port Talbot. Lisa organised a fantastic celebration to mark the day, including delicious cakes from fantastic local baker Lett's bake, free floristry workshops for customers to make flower arrangements, flower goodie bags and more!

We are so lucky to have such a talented florist here in Port Talbot.

** D-Day 80th Anniversary
------------------------------------------------------------
It was wonderful to attend the 80th Anniversary D-Day event in Aberafan Shopping Centre to mark the milestone.

D-Day was a significant turning point in the war, where Allied soldiers crossed the Channel into Normandy. It was wonderful to have the chance to pay tribute to the service and dedication of those who fought for our freedoms.

** Multi Union Meeting
------------------------------------------------------------
I attended a really good meeting with the multi-union at our Port Talbot steel works on the 4th of June.

The Labour Party repeatedly stated that Tata Steel must not take any decisions that couldn’t be reversed following the General Election, and that we cannot support a deal that uses £500 million of taxpayers’ money to make thousands of steelworkers redundant.

** Cornelly Luncheon Club
------------------------------------------------------------
I was delighted to pop along to Cornelly & District Luncheon Club. It's a wonderful initiative run entirely by volunteers, providing a three course meal for £5 and a great opportunity to bring people together. It was great to have a chat with those at the community centre and hear from them how important the Luncheon Club is to them.

** NPT Pride
------------------------------------------------------------
There was a brilliant atmosphere at this years NPT Pride march. I was delighted stand with the local LGBTQ+ community and to join the march through the town centre.

June was Pride month and an important time to celebrate the progress that has been made for LGBTQ+ equality so far, and was a chance to reflect on the work we still have to do.

** Media Highlights
------------------------------------------------------------
BBC

I spoke to the BBC about Labour’s stunning election results.

I repeated what Keir Starmer said "it is time to rebuild the infrastructure of opportunity... brick by brick".

Britain has its future back, and the hard work of delivering the change we need starts now.

Radio Wales Sunday Supplement

A new Labour Party industrial strategy will benefit Aberafan Maesteg and so many other areas across Wales and the UK.

New green industries such as Floating Offshore Wind can offer opportunities to boost British manufacturing and deliver energy security, whilst lowering household bills.
