Director of the Secret Service Stonewalls in Testimony Before Congress

She is making a mockery of the USSS. HotAir: In this case, Republicans and Democrats are united: Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle is absolutely horrible both as a Director and as a witness before Congress is totally embarrassing and unacceptable. As far as I can tell, 100% of the Congressmen think Cheatle must go, not just because the buck stops with her, but because she is stonewalling (HotAir). Collin Rugg: Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle can’t answer almost all of Rep. James Comer’s questions. This woman is way more incompetent than I thought. Attendees were heard groaning in the background as Cheatle gaslit the American people. Comer cornered Cheatle when he asked about the Trump campaign’s requests for additional security. Cheatle jumped around the question and claimed that all security requests for the rally were met (X). Townhall: Rep. Jim Jordan has NO patience for Kim Cheatle and her inability to provide answers to basic questions: “You didn’t get briefed on how many times you turned down the Trump detail when they asked for additional help? You didn’t get briefed on that before you came to this hearing knowing you were going to be asked that question” (X)?

Bipartisan Effort Calls for Secret Service Director to Resign or Be Fired
Wall Street Journal: As the hearing progressed, a growing chorus of lawmakers said they didn’t have confidence in Cheatle’s leadership or ability to keep protectees safe. Republican leaders last week had already called for Cheatle to step down. On Monday, Democrats joined them. Raskin, the top Democrat on the panel, called the session “an unusually depressing hearing” and said he would join in calling for Cheatle’s ouster (Wall Street Journal). Speaker Mike Johnson: Director of Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle claims she takes “full responsibility” for the failure to protect President Donald Trump. If she truly accepts responsibility for the significant security failures, she should resign (X). Just the News: California Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna on Monday joined fellow House Oversight Committee members during their hearing on Secret Service security lapses at the Trump campaign rally in calling for agency Director Kimberly Cheatle to resign (Just the News).

President Biden Transfers Campaign Donation Funds to VP Kamala Harris
Is this legal? Katie Pavlich: Shortly after announcing the end of his campaign Sunday afternoon, President Joe Biden’s campaign quickly transferred his campaign funds to Vice President Kamala Harris. They did this by renaming the original Biden for President FEC filing as “Harris for President.” But was that transfer legal? The current FEC chairman seems skeptical…Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy believes the transfer of funds should be challenged in court (Townhall). FEC Chairman Sean Cooksey: 11 C.F.R. § 110.1(b)(3): “If the candidate is not a candidate in the general election, all contributions made for the general election shall be either returned or refunded to the contributors or redesignated …, or reattributed …, as appropriate” (X).

Democrats Go “All In” on Kamala Harris
Washington Post: Democrats are continuing to rally around Vice President Harris to take over as the party’s presidential nominee following President Biden’s abrupt exit from his reelection campaign Sunday. Harris has received a rapid flow of endorsements from top Democrats, including former House speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Monday. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said that he and Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) plan to meet with Harris “in short order” and will have more to say then. He said Harris’s candidacy has “excited the country” (Washington Post). Wall Street Journal: Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee raised a combined $81 million in its first 24 hours, her campaign said Monday. The money was raised by the campaign, the Democratic National Committee and joint fundraising committees. The Harris campaign noted that over 888,000 grassroots donors made donations in the past 24 hours, with 60% giving their first contribution of the 2024 campaign cycle. The campaign said a Sunday evening call hosted by Win With Black Women raised about $1.6 million in grassroots contributions (Wall Street Journal).

Vice President Harris Gives Remarks From White House South Lawn
Katie Pavlich: Vice President Kamala Harris made remarks from the South Lawn of the White House Monday as President Joe Biden remains missing in action after a COVID-19 diagnosis on July 17 and in the aftermath of ending his 2024 campaign Sunday afternoon…While Biden still has no scheduled events on his official calendar Harris, the presumptive Democrat nominee after landing a series of high profile endorsements over the past 24 hours, is headed to Wilmington Monday afternoon for a campaign event later this week (Townhall). Hugh Hewitt: President Ford came back from a 33 point deficit to almost beat Jimmy Carter in 1976. VP Harris can run a quasi-Rose Garden campaign but she is not remotely a centrist —even within the Democratic Party. She is of and for the American Left (X).

Vice President Kamala Harris Underperforming Among Women, Non-Black Minorities
New York Post: Vice President Kamala Harris is underperforming President Biden in swing state Georgia — trailing Donald Trump by 4.6 percentage points and underperforming with women and non-black minorities, according to a poll released just hours after Biden dropped his bid for a second term and endorsed Harris. Trump would take 50.5% of the vote to Harris’ 45.9%, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution found. The Republican also widened what was a 3.5% lead over Biden in the same poll — with women and non-white minorities contributing to Harris’ slightly worse performance (New York Post). Washington Examiner: Black women leaders and their allies are swiftly mobilizing and fundraising around Vice President Kamala Harris‘s presidential campaign after President Joe Biden stepped down from the Democratic ticket (Washington Examiner).

President Biden Phones In to VP Kamala Harris Event, Sounds Raspy
New York Post: President Biden’s speech was disturbingly slurred and raspy Monday as he called in to his former campaign’s headquarters to vouch for his chosen successor Vice President Kamala Harris. “I know yesterday’s news was surprising and it was hard for you to hear, but it was the right thing to do,” the 81-year-old president told campaign staff in Wilmington, Del. “The name has changed at the top of the ticket, but the mission hasn’t changed,” Biden told the staff — phoning in from his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Del (New York Post). Charlie Kirk: Here’s the full tape of Joe Biden calling into a Kamala Harris event just moments ago. This is the first time anyone has heard from Biden in five days (X). Katie Pavlich: Update on President Biden from White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor (X).

J.D. Vance Begins Campaign Trail in His Hometown of Middletown, Ohio
Fox News: Donald Trump’s pick for vice president, JD Vance, hit the campaign trail on Monday, less than 24 hours after President Biden announced he was dropping out of the race for a second term in office. Vance began his day hosting a campaign rally in his hometown of Middletown, Ohio, where he linked Vice President Kamala Harris to the “worst president in history,” and said that he was just as shocked as most people were to hear the news that he was dropping out of the presidential race (Fox News). ABC News: Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance holds his first solo campaign rally in his hometown of Middletown, Ohio. “This town was so good to me,” he tells the crowd (X). Gabe Guidarini: Line for the JD Vance rally in Middletown  is so long, you literally cannot see the end of it (X).

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu Arrives to Address Congress; Kamala Harris, President Biden Did Not Greet Ally
Townhall: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to address a joint session of Congress on Wednesday of this week, but it looks like he’ll be doing so without much involvement from President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris. Netanyahu arrived in the country earlier on Monday. Biden, Harris, and Secretary of State Antony Blinken were absent when he landed (Townhall). RNC Research: Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has arrived in the U.S. Neither Biden, Harris, nor Blinken were there to greet him (X). Reporter Eyal Yakoby: It is so sad that neither Biden nor Kamala greeted Netanyahu as he arrived in Washington. This sends a message to America’s enemies that US alliances are breakable. This is horrible foreign policy (X). Hugh Hewitt: That VP Harris will not preside over the speech of PM Netanyahu to the Congress tells every voter in America who is a friend of Israel what Harris thinks of the necessity of support for the Jewish State when it is at war on many fronts. She’s a radical of the true American Left. Don’t vote for her (X).

Hunter Biden Drops Lawsuit Against Fox News for Publishing Explicit Images of Him in Streaming Series
Associated Press: Hunter Biden has dropped a lawsuit accusing Fox News of illegally publishing explicit images of him as part of a streaming series. An attorney for the president’s son filed a voluntary dismissal notice on Sunday in federal court in New York City, three weeks after the lawsuit was filed. It wasn’t clear why the lawsuit was dropped, and Biden’s attorney didn’t immediately respond to a Monday email seeking comment. The lawsuit involved images shown in “The Trial of Hunter Biden,” which debuted on the streaming service Fox Nation in 2022. The series features a “mock trial” of Hunter Biden on charges that he hasn’t faced and includes images of him in the nude and engaged in sex acts, according to the lawsuit. The complaint claimed that the dissemination of intimate images without his consent violated New York’s so-called revenge porn law (Associated Press). Just the News: The lawsuit was originally filed about 3 weeks ago (Just the News).
