Just now, California Environmental Voters’ board endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in her historic run for President.

Vice President Harris has proven herself time and again as a climate champion. She brings a record on climate issues that dates back to her time as San Francisco’s district attorney, when she created that office’s first environmental justice unit in 2005.

As Attorney General, she sued Southern California Gas Company over the largest natural gas leak in U.S. history and opposed Chevron’s refinery expansion in the majority Black and Latino city of Richmond.

And as Senator, she introduced the Climate Equity Act, which was used as a model for equity investments in the Inflation Reduction Act that she cast the deciding vote on as Vice President.

President Biden will leave office as the most pro-climate president in history, and we’re confident Vice President Harris is able to build on that progress and supersede it.

Her opponents know that she’s going to take the climate crisis very seriously -- she’ll keep adding to the incredible climate agenda that the Biden-Harris administration has built.

This has been the most pro-environment administration and we’re confident VP Harris will fight for clean energy, public lands, green new jobs, and protecting disadvantaged communities.

VP Harris has already broken barriers as the first woman, the first Black woman, and the first South Asian Vice President. Her candidacy for President represents a landmark moment in our country where its diversity can be represented in the nation’s highest office.
