No one should have to choose between taking action against COVID-19 and their education
Canada’s future relies on the opportunities and support we provide to students today, friend – especially through this difficult time.
Many students or recent grads were preparing to start a summer job or new career in the weeks ahead, and are now concerned about how to make ends meet.
No one should have to choose between taking action against COVID-19 and their education, friend. As the Prime Minister said today, a sustainable economic recovery will require a strong workforce and good job opportunities for young people – and that means giving them the support they need to continue their studies and encouraging them to serve their communities.
That’s why today Justin Trudeau announced nearly $9 billion of comprehensive support to help students and recent grads, including:
The new Canada Student Service Grant (CSSG): Up to $5,000 for a student’s education in the fall for students who choose to work in national service positions and serve their community.
Creating 76,000 jobs for young people in addition to the Canada Summer Jobs program, in sectors that need an extra hand right now or that are on the frontlines of this pandemic.
Together, these measures will help ensure students and recent grads have the support they need to continue their studies, or to get the experience they were counting on to start their careers.
Supporting young Canadians is key to making sure Canada comes out stronger than ever from this crisis. And these new measures build on our Liberal government's strong commitment to doing whatever it takes to support all Canadians during this difficult time, including
urgent steps to support families, workers, small businesses, and vulnerable Canadians.
We will get through this together, and our Liberal government knows that young Canadians will help define our path toward a better and more equal future.
Thanks for your support and engagement at this crucial time, friend.
