The ruling unequivocally declared the
occupation unlawful, and accuses Israel of heaping human rights abuses
onto the Palestinian people.
None of this should be surprising. For 10 long months now we’ve
witnessed Israeli occupying forces gleefully posting videos of their
war crimes on social media. Finally we are piercing the
veil on Israeli propaganda.
But this ruling is notable for three
reasons:
First, it comes
on the back of another ICJ ruling earlier this year alleging genocide
perpetrated against Gaza.
Second, this new ruling arises as Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant are both facing potential
arrest warrants for war crimes by the International Criminal
Court.
Finally,
this ruling lands just days before Netanyahu himself
lands in the United States to deliver a joint address to
Congress.
In a just world, Netanyahu would be denied
entry – if not detained on sight – and held accountable for his
crimes.
Instead,
Netanyahu’s American friends came rushing to his defense, with
multiple members of Congress issuing statements slamming the ICJ
ruling as illegitimate.
This is a shameful
display of cowardice from our elected officials – and a thoroughly
bipartisan one at that. NO
member of Congress should entertain Netanyahu while he presides over a
genocide. And staging this state visit only amplifies their complicity
in the fact Israel’s crimes are carried out with American bombs and
American dollars they personally authorized.
But
ultimately, it is the White House that sets the tone for this
relationship, and under a
Jill Stein administration Benjamin Netanyahu will NEVER be
welcome.
There is only ONE choice on the ballot
for a majority of voters with a decades-long record of anti-war
activism; only one with the credibility to stand up to empire,
dismantle the American war machine, and forge a path forward for
people, planet, and peace.
After
the shake-up in the Democratic race, millions of voters are closely
assessing their choices for President and will not back any member of
the Biden administration complicit in Israel’s genocide. I need your
help to reach these voters. Will you donate $25, $50, $100 or more
