Hi John,

Yesterday, President Biden announced that he will not be seeking reelection as President of the United States. President Biden has been a lifelong public servant and advocate for voting rights and protecting democracy.

Now, you may be wondering — where do we go from here? While we don’t have all the answers yet, here’s what we do know:

📌 Has this ever happened before?

Yes. In March 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson withdrew from the presidential election — setting up an open convention for later that year. Delegates voted to nominate the incumbent Vice President Hubert Humphrey to the presidential ticket.

📌 Okay, so what’s next?

A few thousand delegates who represent voters will choose the party’s nominee. Before President Biden announced he is not seeking reelection, the Democratic National Committee planned to hold a virtual roll call in August to nominate its presidential ticket. If the call does not happen, they will do it in person at the Democratic National Convention beginning August 19.

📌 Is Vice President Harris automatically the Democratic Presidential Nominee?

Not necessarily. The nominee will not become official until delegates vote at the Democratic National Convention.

John, no matter what, Election Day is on November 5th — and our democracy only works if we all participate. Now is the time to take action and ensure we are all registered and ready to vote. Will you donate whatever you can to help us register as many Americans as possible this election season? >>> [[link removed]]
