Joe Biden will go down in history as one of our most consequential presidents

Dear Friend,

We all saw and heard the news yesterday: President Biden announced he will no longer run for a second term as president, and he endorsed Vice-President Harris to be his successor.

President Biden's decision to pass the torch will etch him into the pantheon of great Americans who put the country before themselves. He deserves to sit under the shade of his vine and fig tree.

As I processed the news, I thought immediately of two things: first, I will do everything I can to elect Vice-President Harris as President; and second, I thought about the time Joe Biden gave me his cufflinks.

President Biden personally gave me these cufflinks when he was a Senator back in 2006. I had just graduated college and was working on a US Senate campaign and I had to drive Biden around for the day as he campaigned for us.

We spent nearly 15 hours together, traversing all across southern and central New Jersey in the pouring rain, making campaign stop after campaign stop. We talked about everything - my life, my family, my aspirations - he was incredibly down-to-earth & genuinely caring.

As we waited in the Metropark station parking lot for the train, he took his cufflinks off, gave them to me, and thanked me for driving him all day.

He may have done the same thing for hundreds of people throughout the years - or maybe he just did it for me. It doesn't matter. At that moment, on a human-to-human level, he made me feel like a million bucks and I've cherished these cufflinks ever since then.

I've worn these cufflinks every year that I've been on the ballot, first in 2012, then in 2018, 2020, 2022, and of course, will do so this year.

We all know what’s at stake this November: the Presidency, Congress, our State Legislature, and the Equal Rights Amendment. I am going to do everything I can to make sure we win. But we can’t take anything for granted. Are you in? Let’s get to work.

Sincerely,

Andrew
