Hi, Dozens of members of Congress have said that the House and Senate never should’ve invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to speak on Capitol Hill.1 Many of them, including Senator Bernie Sanders, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, and Rep. Ro Khanna, plan to skip Netanyahu’s speech on Wednesday.2 Despite the Israeli military’s months-long onslaught against the people of Gaza, Mike Johnson, Hakeem Jeffries, Mitch McConnell, and Chuck Schumer invited Netanyahu to address Congress. Our government should not be welcoming Netanyahu to the Capitol. 230 congressional staffers joined some lawmakers to urge members of the House and Senate to skip Netanyahu’s speech.3 Now, we need to put as much pressure as possible on all of our Senators and Reps, because none of our lawmakers should attend this speech. When Schumer and Jeffries signed the invitation to Netanyahu, they handed Mike Johnson and Mitch McConnell a political gift. The GOP is using the speech to try to villainize anyone who doesn’t attend. And last time Netanyahu gave a speech in front of Congress, he railed against Democrats and the Obama administration. If Democrats stand united against Netanyahu, it would provide far less legitimacy to his speech. In addition to his massive breaches of international law and an onslaught against the Palestinian people in Gaza, Netanyahu is also actively opposing efforts to finally strike a peace deal. There’s still time for our congressional leaders to speak up, oppose Netanyahu’s visit, and refuse to attend. Sign the petition: Disinvite Netanyahu! Thanks for taking action, Sources:
