Statement of Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman on the 2024 Democratic Nomination
President Joe Biden has spent a lifetime working on behalf of Americans as a Senator, Vice President, and as our President. His service through personal tragedy and triumph has been the definition of exemplary.
Guiding us out of the pandemic and through the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, President Biden has exhibited unparalleled leadership in his ability to pass meaningful legislation that will ensure America’s future success and support working families. I am immensely grateful for his service to our country, for the leadership and grace he has displayed as our President, and for his belief in the goodness of the American people.
Recognizing that it is time to pass the job of leading America forward to a new generation, President Biden has again demonstrated his extraordinary leadership and patriotism. Marylanders witnessed another leader take a similar and nearly unprecedented step in 1783 when General George Washington resigned his commission as Commander in Annapolis. It takes a special kind of courage, love of country, and selflessness to take such an action. President Biden’s decision to prioritize our national interest over personal power is a potent example of leadership for generations living today and those to come.
I look forward to supporting President Biden as he carries out the remainder of his term and am grateful that he has made the decision to support his partner in governing to be our Democratic nominee.

This year we will have the opportunity to elect as President a woman who has demonstrated her leadership, her tenacity, and her dedication to the American people in Kamala Harris. For four years, Vice President Harris has done essential work across the world – building alliances, speaking up for disempowered people, and digging in to solve the problems facing our country. She has demonstrated her ability to lead as a prosecutor, an Attorney General, a U.S. Senator, and our Vice President – the first Black person, woman, and Asian-American to serve in this role. She is a champion for workers, for women, and for everyday Americans, and she will be a phenomenal President. I enthusiastically endorse her to be the Democratic nominee.
I hope all Americans will cast their ballot to make history this November – and in doing so, elect a woman ready to make us proud in the White House.
