With all respect owed to President Biden, one ingredient was missing in our bid to unseat MAGA extremist Rep. Jack Bergman — a captivating presidential ticket to help turn out Democratic votes.
Yesterday, that changed!
In 2010, in our district, Gary McDowell (D) ran against Dan Benishek (R). Like Bob Lorinser, McDowell lost in his first attempt. One cycle later, he brushed himself off, showed resilience, tenacity, and grit, ran again, and gained nearly 10 points in a rematch against an incumbent.
In 2012, McDowell was defeated by just a hair, a half a percentage point. It was the year of Barack Obama. Obama helped down-ballot races gain traction in local elections.
With the name recognition we've built, nearly $1 million invested over three years, and on the second leg of a two-cycle strategy, precedent shows winning is more than possible; like McDowell, it's now within reach.
Considering unfavorable redistricting in 2022, Bob Lorinser already moved the needle for Democrats by up to five points. Now, the opportunity to finally send Jack Bergman back to Louisiana is palpable.
