John,
Mere hours ago, President Biden announced that he will not seek reelection and has put his support behind Kamala Harris for the Democratic presidential nomination.
We are living through an unprecedented time in the history of our country and I want to make two things very clear in this moment: President Biden fundamentally shifted what it means for a president to combat gun violence and I trust Kamala Harris to carry on that legacy.
President Biden deserves our thanks for what he has done to free America from gun violence not just in his time as president but throughout his political career – he has been a steadfast advocate for saving lives from gun violence and has taken more action to do so during his presidency than any other president in history.
|
Biden helped pass and signed into law the most consequential gun violence prevention policy in 30 years with the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. He established the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. He confirmed a permanent director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for the first time in years. And the Biden Harris Administration implemented more executive actions to address gun violence than any other administration. He remains the only President who has taken on the NRA and won – but at Brady, we know the next gun violence prevention champion president must do the same.
|
Biden is stepping down with the best interest of the country at heart, and he has also acted in the best interest of protecting American lives from gun violence over the past three years. I ask you to join me in thanking him for his dedication to our movement:

I’m asking 5,000 Brady supporters to sign on now and tell President Biden THANK YOU for your dedication to saving lives from gun violence. Will you add your name to our card right now, John?

Brady is committed to ensuring that this legacy of gun violence continues with the next presidency. This election is about the safety of the American people, about the gun lobby’s deadly agenda against our life-saving progress. Our lives are on the ballot. No matter the circumstances, we won’t stop fighting to save lives and free America from gun violence. I know you’re with us in this fight and I thank you for it.

Together, we will continue to change this country for the better.
Kris Brown
