Fake news about coronavirus puts lives at risk, and its blanketing social
media. Platforms like Facebook can take urgent action by adding a “report
Covid-19 misinformation” button to all coronavirus content. It’s quick and
easy and will save lives — let’s show them their users demand it: [ [link removed]- ]Take Action!

John,

Just a couple weeks ago, the word “hydroxychloroquine” was all over social
media as a potential COVID-19 treatment. Suppliers sold out of it. Experts
warned it was unproven.

Now the study results are in: "There were more deaths among those given
hydroxychloroquine versus standard care”.

Allowing fake news and snake oil myths to spread across social media can
cost lives, period.

But there’s a simple thing platforms can do — urgently add a “report
Covid-19 misinformation” feature on all coronavirus posts so people can
easily flag false information. They already do this for voting information
— it’s time they do it now when lives are at stake:

misinformation!

Some are saying the platforms have done an impressive job responding to
Coronavirus disinformation. And while it’s true that banning ads promoting
cures and fake masks is a positive step forward -- it’s not nearly enough.

If we are able to easily flag fake news, there would be less people who
think COVID-19 is caused by 5G, or that Bill Gates wants to use a vaccine
to "tag" people all over the world. These are real, harmful lies that are
all over social media and there are *so many* stories like this that we
should be flagging!

We know these tech platforms can do this fairly easily. They have the
biggest technology teams in the world and can spin up a feature like this
within days if not hours. But it will only happen if enough of us demand
it.
