‌John,

Over the years, I have known Joe Biden in many roles — a fellow Delawarean, mentor, senator, president, and most importantly, a friend. To me, he has always embodied the essence of true leadership.

Today marks a critical moment in American history, and I hope we can focus on Joe Biden's incredible legacy of service to our nation.

He has served us in the Senate, as vice president, and as president. Today, he has made a difficult decision to serve our nation by stepping aside and making certain Donald Trump does not return to the White House.

Throughout the time I have known him, Joe has always been a fighter — and during his entire time in office, he has fought for this country and for progress for the American people, just as he will continue to do during the remaining months of his presidency. He consistently demonstrated steady leadership and has worked tirelessly to restore America’s standing on the world stage. His decision today is a testament to his character and dedication to our country.

Joe’s record of public service is unparalleled. He has done more in one term than most do in two terms, and his legacy of putting our nation before himself is further solidified by his courageous decision. Ultimately, this decision has shown the very best of who Joe Biden is.

As we look ahead, I am committed to supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, just as President Biden has, and to working diligently with the Biden-Harris administration for the next six months. I know I speak for more people than myself when I say:

Thank you, Joe.

Sincerely,

Chris Coons
