Friend,

President Joe Biden just passed the torch to California’s own Vice
President Kamala Harris, who is now the apparent Democratic party nominee
for president.(1)

We have have the opportunity to have the first Californian in the Oval
Office in a generation. But it also means that, like many other
organizations, we are reshuffling our election plans to adjust to the
changing reality. With just a bit more than 100 days left before the
election, we have so much work to do, and we can’t do it without your
help.

woman president is a Californian?

Having already achieved many “firsts” in her career, Harris is just the
second woman presidential candidate from a major party, and the first
woman of color.

More important are her values -- pro-reproductive freedom, pro-democracy,
pro-racial justice, pro-gun safety, pro-progress.

We also know that Kamala Harris can win this race. Recent Washington Post
polling conducted before Biden’s announcement shows Harris beating Trump
by two percentage points if the election were held today.(2)

However, Trump and the MAGA Republicans have already unleashed the full
force of their racist, sexist dog whistles against Harris, with an
advertising campaign already launching TODAY.(3) We can’t let their
bigotry go unanswered.

As Californians, we are uniquely positioned to champion our home state
candidate. She has relationships with us and our California partners
already built, and we can become even more influential on the national
agenda. We also know that she is clearly the best choice for president in
this critical moment for our nation. We know that when it counts, she
stands up for the most vulnerable among us -- domestic abuse survivors,
children, and people facing foreclosure by Big Banks.

As I write this, Courage staff across the state are pivoting to ensure
volunteers and members have the tools they need to talk to voters about
what a Harris presidency would mean for them. But time is ticking, and we
need your help.

Harris?

This is an unprecedented and chaotic moment. But, from the chaos and
uncertainty comes the potential for us to make history. Let's do this.

Lindsay (the Courage team)
