Breaking news, John:

President Biden just announced he is no longer running for a second term and is dropping out of the November presidential race. We, of course, welcome this decision and commend the President for doing what is best both for the Democratic Party and our country as a whole.

That being said, President Biden and Party leadership should have never let it get this far. We are on the brink of fascism once again, and the stakes could not be higher. Democratic Party leadership and the establishment have routinely shown us they would rather risk it all than let the next generation lead.

Our mission at Justice Democrats has always been to recruit and elect the next generation of diverse, working-class leaders to Congress who are gonna fight like hell for all of us and do politics differently. That mission has never been more important than in this moment.

The Squad in Congress — leaders like Jamaal Bowman, Cori Bush, Summer Lee, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and others — have been beacons of hope and light in Congress.

Over the last 5 years, alongside other progressives in Congress, they have shifted our expectations of how hard an elected leader can and should fight for all of us. They have popularized and energized a base of organized voters and volunteers who are ready to fight for worker’s rights, Medicare for All, getting big money out of politics, a Green New Deal, opposing genocide, and ending forever wars. And these are the people that we need to put in the work and show up in November in order to defeat Trump and deliver a Democratic victory.

We will continue to do our part alongside the Squad to organize our base of voters and volunteers ahead of November to fight back against right-wing extremism. Now, our country needs Party leadership to do the same. It’s not just the White House at stake, but control of the House and Senate too.
