New York's 24th District is home to some of the most beautiful natural landscapes and resources in the country. But our environment is facing unprecedented dangers from the climate crisis -- and too many in Washington are ignoring science and putting the needs of the fossil fuel industry above our planet's health.

We need to continue the central and western New York tradition of protecting and preserving our land, water, and air. Today, on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, I'm more committed than ever to fighting to protect our environment and building a green economy that provides opportunity for all working families.

I'm running for Congress to give the people of NY-24 a real voice for environmental progress. For far too long, John Katko has enabled climate-deniers like Donald Trump and their rollbacks of environmental protections. He's taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from the oil and gas industry, and has done nothing to advance green jobs and technology in a district that has been left behind.

This is a time for bold action. We need to replace our aging water systems to ensure that our drinking water is safe and stop the catastrophic sewage spills that pollute our water supplies. We need to invest in renewable energy technology and installation. We need to modernize our energy grid, so we can transport energy from renewable sources to every community. And we need to help our farmers adopt the best sustainable agricultural tools and techniques.

Improving and protecting our environment will strengthen our economy, create jobs, and preserve our communities as places for our children and their children to live in. We need to step up at this defining moment for our planet.
