As you have no doubt heard by now, President Biden has made the choice to suspend his presidential campaign.

Few public servants have given more to our country than Joe Biden. His record of accomplishment as a Senator, Vice President, and as President of the United States is unmatched. Over the last four years I’ve been proud to partner with his administration to take on Big Pharma, bring down the cost of prescription drugs, and to secure the biggest federal investment in Michigan’s infrastructure since the 1950s, to say nothing of delivering the biggest expansion of veterans healthcare benefits in decades.

I cannot imagine the difficulty of this decision, and he should be applauded not just for his accomplishments in office – including leading our country through the COVID crisis – but also for putting the future of this country and our democracy first. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude.

This is an unprecedented moment in our history, and I am sure that you, like so many Americans, are feeling a sense of uncertainty about what comes next. Which is why I wanted to take a moment to talk about what it means for our country – and the November election.

First, one thing that hasn't changed: The November election will be an inflection point in our democracy where Americans will be faced with the choice of deciding what kind of country we want to be.

And we know Michigan will determine control of the White House and the Senate. Period. Full stop.

But when seismic shifts of this nature happen, they tend to generate an extraordinary amount of energy and action. So I am certain that as you read this, Republicans are emboldened in a way that will benefit our potential opponent.

Our job, today, while the presidential campaign is being sorted out is to make sure we don't pause and watch the world go by. We have to not only match their enthusiasm, but exceed it.

We have a big task ahead of us: Hold the White House, defend the Senate, and keep Michigan blue. But I cannot do that alone. For that, I need your help. So today -- especially today -- I am asking you to do something important that will help us win this Senate race:

Can I count on you to make today the day you contribute your contribution to my campaign for U.S. Senate here in Michigan? I will put your donation right to work making sure Democrats in Michigan.

I can't thank you enough for being there for me in this moment.
