President Biden has just announced his decision to withdraw from the presidential race.

We are grateful for President Biden’s lifetime of public service. The Biden-Harris administration has raised the bar for pro-choice leadership in the White House: expanding availability of medication abortion, defending access to abortion care in emergency rooms, strengthening privacy rules to protect pregnant patients, and funding the vital services provided at Title X clinics.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to Vice President Kamala Harris, who has been a stalwart defender of reproductive rights and gender equality, and who President Biden has expressly endorsed as his successor. Her leadership has been instrumental in promoting policies that allow us the fundamental freedom to make decisions about our bodies, families, and futures.

Vice President Harris has helped set a new precedent for federal pro-choice leadership, and we look forward to supporting her campaign.

As we approach November, we’re staring down not only state abortion bans, but also renewed attacks on IVF and contraception, continued efforts to ban medication abortion, and the looming threat of a national abortion ban.

In the face of these attacks, every elected official, from city councilor to state legislator to the president, plays a crucial role in protecting and expanding our reproductive freedom. We’re confident that Vice President Kamala Harris will continue to lead with pro-choice values, alongside the thousands of pro-choice candidates seeking office across the country.

A majority of Americans, across every state, believe that personal medical decisions should be made by patients, not politicians. And in every election since Roe was overturned, this pro-choice majority has shown up at the ballot box to protect abortion rights.

There are thousands of races on the ballot this November, and we’re working to ensure that voters are educated about every pro-choice candidate running. Investing in down-ballot races will benefit the entire Democratic ticket, and we will look forward to electing pro-choice leaders in every race this year—from the bottom of the ballot to the top.
