As temperatures rise this July, so do the concerns of LGBTQ+ young people regarding climate change. Our latest research brief highlights the significant impact climate change has on their mental health. The study reveals that frequent worry about climate change is linked to higher rates of depression and anxiety in LGBTQ+ young people. Notably, 59% of LGBTQ+ youth with anxiety symptoms reported often worrying about climate change, compared to 47% without anxiety symptoms. Over half of the respondents (55%) indicated they worry about climate change "a lot," demonstrating the pervasive nature of these concerns.
These findings emphasize the urgent need for mental health support for LGBTQ+ youth as they navigate the increasing risks associated with climate change. Understanding the intersection between climate anxiety and mental health is crucial for developing effective support systems. ** Advancing the wellbeing of LGBTQ+ young people with lululemon
------------------------------------------------------------
We are proud to partner with lululemon to advance the wellbeing and improve the health equity of LGBTQ+ young people. The Trevor Project was first announced as a national partner of the lululemon Centre for Social Impact when it was launched in October 2021.
As a transformative partner, lululemon has since provided $4 million in support of Trevor's mission, enabling us to provide more LGBTQ+ young people with suicide prevention and crisis intervention services in the U.S. and Mexico, advance our crucial advocacy work against anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, and conduct accurate and actionable research on the mental health of LGBTQ+ young people. We were very proud to highlight this partnership as part of Trevor’s Pride in Action campaign this June with lululemon joining us as a Pride Match partner, raising funds through a 2:1 match.
Guided by the foundational belief that everyone has the right to be well, we will continue our work together to achieve impact at scale and save more young LGBTQ+ lives.
