John,
Hearing from supporters like you over the past few weeks has been such a joy to us. In this uncertain time, your stories of hope, your prayers and your words of encouragement have given us much-needed boosts of energy and momentum as we continue the fight from our kitchen tables and the nooks and crannies we now call home offices. Thank you.
Many of you have also reached out to us to ask “How is the pandemic affecting IJM’s work? How can we help?”
While our global teams are still in the midst of collecting and analyzing official statistics, the sobering reality is that we are seeing an increase in violence against the most vulnerable across the board. Social isolation has increased the audience for online sex trafficking of children. Strict curfews to enforce quarantines have led to an increase in police violence cases. Women and children who regularly face the threat of abuse at the hands of family members are now trapped at home with their abusers 24/7.
But we are still hard at work. IJM has been able to show up in unique ways during this time:
- We are ensuring our partner aftercare homes have what they need to continue supporting survivors of violence.
- We are checking in with current and past clients to ensure they have their basic needs met, such as housing, food and protection against the virus.
- We are actively investigating new cases of violence and abuse and helping equip local justice officials to pursue cases when possible right now and resume normal caseloads when lockdown is lifted.
John, there are people around the world who urgently need our help now more than ever. You can help us continue to face each day, rise to meet the new challenges posed by this pandemic and ensure that we’re able to show up for the vulnerable – every time, no matter what.
The best way you can help right now is by giving where it’s needed most. If you have the financial stability to do so, please

give to our most urgent needs.
And in addition, would you consider using your voice and sharing about IJM’s work? Would you tell others how the threat of violence and oppression against people who are vulnerable is increasing during this season of lockdown? Together, we can stop it.
You can make more stories of hope happen, John.
