"John, our records show you’ve had an abortion, we can’t help you.”
“I won’t treat trans people — John, please seek care somewhere else.”
“John, since you are pregnant out of wedlock, we can’t cover your prenatal visit.”
You should NEVER be faced with these words in the doctor’s office, during an ER visit, or in any other health care setting. Thanks to the Health Care Rights Law, a key provision of the Affordable Care Act, discrimination like this is illegal. But if the Trump-Pence administration’s proposed rule that tries to gut this law is finalized, discrimination could be introduced into the health care setting and patients would suffer the consequences. We have only FIVE MORE DAYS to flood this administration with comments demanding that it stop this dangerous rule.
The proposed rule targets abortion and gender identity specifically, but its harmful provisions could sanction discrimination in virtually all facets of health care. We can’t let that happen. Our health care matters, no matter how many times this administration tries to say otherwise.
The Department of Health and Human Services is obligated to read every single comment that is submitted. Submit your comment by the August 13 deadline and demand the administration puts patients first today!
Sincerely,
Gretchen Borchelt
