John, if you are like me you are probably concerned for the future of American democracy right now.
I’ve heard from countless Common Cause members whose faith has been shaken in the past few weeks – from Supreme Court rulings to the horrific shooting in Pennsylvania last weekend.
But I’ve always believed that when I’m feeling uneasy about the road ahead, the best antidote is to do something about it.
So, if you’re feeling confused, hopeless, or just not sure what to do in this moment – I want to share one major way you can be part of the solution.
You see, every year, Common Cause fields thousands of knowledgeable, nonpartisan volunteers at polling sites across the country.
Their job? Help every voter know their rights and make their voice heard. And, especially right now, these trained volunteers are a key way we can turn down the temperature for everyone.
And John, together, this team is able to accomplish something absolutely extraordinary – helping millions of voters cast their ballots free from fear, obstruction, or intimidation.
That’s exactly what we did in 2020 and again in 2022: from the first primary elections all the way through to making sure every vote was counted and that the results were respected.
And already this year, we’re recruiting and training our volunteer team for November, while we work with local officials on the problem areas we identified in this year’s primaries to make sure they’re fixed in time for the general election.
Our work protecting voters will be (and absolutely must be) a game changer this year. Too much is at stake this year to sit on the sidelines.
But after the past few weeks, I’m convinced that we must dramatically scale this work up. But we can only meet this moment if Common Cause members like you are willing to fund a historic expansion in our voter protection efforts.
John, I know you’re hearing from a lot of important causes right now, but I’m asking for your help today because you’ve always supported us when it counts.
Our field team tells me that each additional volunteer we field costs us around $50: covering everything from recruitment, to training, to materials, and data analysis afterwards to make sure we fix anything that went wrong for next time.
So if you want to know how to do your part for democracy right now, I hope you will step up today and sponsor an Election Protection volunteer to help voters now through November >>

Right now, we all need to do our part to protect our democracy and ensure that every voter can cast their ballot freely and without fear. You are a critical part of this movement, and I’m glad to have you on our team.
Thanks for all you do,
