Leading the charge, as always, is Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert, two of the emptiest heads in the Republican Party. At the RNC, Boebert openly compared Trump to Jesus, connecting "cancel culture" with Christ's crucifixion:
"This censorship, the silencing of those who speak the truth, is nothing new. Cancel culture is nothing new. You cannot cancel who God has called,” Boebert said. “They tried to cancel Jesus. You can’t cancel God. Jesus laid down his own life. No one took his life. He laid that down for you and for me, and history repeats itself."
Is Boebert implying that Trump is Jesus, or is a second coming of Jesus Christ? Neither would be very surprising, unfortunately.
Of course, the very Bible that Boebert and other so-called MAGA Christians claim to follow explicitly warns of such blasphemy: Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
The MAGA Cult is reaching new levels of absurdity, but with it comes a danger that cannot be ignored. Our fight is about so much more than Lauren Boebert herself: it is about the future. It is about defeating fascism in America. And it is about protecting the progress we've made over decades.
