John,
The Republican National Convention just wrapped up in Milwaukee but while the media focuses on election horse races, a dangerous economic plan is flying under the radar. It's called Project 2025, and it threatens to undo the progress we’ve made in starting to hold wealthy and corporate tax dodgers accountable by doubling down on―and even expanding―the Trump-GOP tax scam.[1]
While they didn't mention it by name, the policies outlined by Trump and the Republicans at the convention reveal their true agenda: Project 2025―a radical blueprint to lock in and worsen inequality in our tax system and economy.
The architects of this plan are betting the public won’t recognize the danger in their radical scheme, especially in the afterglow of the convention. They're counting on voters not understanding how these changes would impact their lives for the worse. We can't let that happen.
That's why we're launching an urgent campaign to expose Project 2025 and educate the public about its true impact and costs. But we need your help to reach every corner of the country with this critical information.
With the convention behind us and less than 4 months until the election, we're in a race against time. Will you donate $5 today to power our nationwide effort to expose how Project 2025 would rig our economy and our tax system?
Project 2025 represents a massive transfer of wealth to the already wealthy, funneling trillions of dollars to the richest Americans and away from working families over the next decade. It would be an acceleration of the already alarming trend of wealth concentration at the top, which destabilizes our economy, deepens social divisions and endangers our democracy. The most immediate effect when the rich get richer is that there’s less money to fund essential public services for regular people.
The dramatic reduction in tax revenue from the wealthy and corporations envisioned by the plan would leave governments at all levels struggling to fund crucial programs, potentially leading to cuts in education, healthcare, nutrition, and infrastructure―services that middle- and working-class families rely on every day.[2]
The Congressional Budget Office estimates that just extending the expiring Trump tax cuts—and Project 2025 wants to reduce revenue even more—would increase the national debt by a staggering $5 trillion over the next decade.[3] This debt explosion will then be used by Republicans, including the authors of Project 2025, as an excuse to slash Social Security, Medicare, housing, and other vital services.
Even more troubling, Project 2025 aims to lock in these regressive changes by requiring an undemocratic three-fifths majority to reform taxes in the future, hamstringing future majorities in Congress from addressing economic inequalities or responding to national crises like natural disasters and war.
Every day that Project 2025 remains in the shadows is a victory for those who want to further rig our economy for the ultra-wealthy. Donate $5 today to power our nationwide effort to expose how Project 2025 would make our economy and our tax system even more unfair.
Together, we can shine a light on this dangerous plan and fight for an economy that works for all of us, not just the top 1%.
Thank you for your commitment to economic justice.
