John,
I was a freshman at the University of Maine at Farmington when the twin towers fell on September 11th. I knew what I had to do, so I enlisted in the Marine Corps and served combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.
My military service has shaped who I am, and I carry those values with me every day. Public service is in my blood and I will always fight to defend the values that make America great.
In the Marines, I was taught that good leaders make sure their troops are served first, and that leaders eat last. Every servicemember is expected to carry their own weight, watch each other’s back, and work as part of a team to get the job done.
At home, our leaders need to serve us the same way. It’s no wonder why members of Congress who have served overseas are more likely to put politics aside to get things done.
