Protecting Our Environment from Climate Change

Hello Friends,

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend! From New Hampshire’s Appalachian National Scenic Trail to Yosemite National Park, the United States is home to the most beautiful land in the world. This week, I had the opportunity to join the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) on a Congressional Member Delegation tour of Olympic National Park.

Each of us has a role to play in protecting our environment for future generations to cherish and enjoy.

During my trip, I learned firsthand about the impacts climate change is having on the environment and our national parks and what steps Congress can take to help mitigate its damage. Our delegation also met with the National Park Service to discuss the tools they use to combat the effects of climate change on the park and surrounding environment, the measures we can implement going forward to help adapt to coming climate impacts, and how to communicate these insights effectively.

We have a responsibility to preserve our country’s beauty so it can be enjoyed and admired for generations to come. I look forward to discussing what we learned this week with my colleagues in Washington so we can work together to preserve the United States’ pristine natural treasures.

Exciting Grant Opportunities for New Hampshire Communities

I also want to highlight some exciting clean energy grant opportunities available to New Hampshire communities and businesses this summer.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program is designed to assist states, local governments, and Tribes in implementing strategies to reduce energy use, cut fossil fuel emissions, and improve energy efficiency, lowering costs for Granite Staters and protecting our environment.

There has been a deadline extension for the submission of an EECBG Program Voucher application submission. For local governments, the new deadline is October 31, 2024, and for tribal governments, the deadline is May 31, 2025.

The Department of Transportation has announced the second round of the $1.3 billion Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Grant. CFI is a competitive grant program created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to deploy publicly accessible electric vehicle charging and alternative fueling infrastructure in the places people live and work, in both urban and rural communities.

The deadline for application questions is July 29, 2024, and the deadline for round 2 applications is August 28, 2024.

Expanding Access to Treatment and Recovery Services

We need to use every tool available to tackle the addiction and overdose crisis.

New Hampshire is no stranger to the devastating impacts of the opioid epidemic and overdose crisis, and the state’s Section 1115 Medicaid demonstration waiver has played a critical role in providing the treatment and support necessary for those in the criminal justice system to heal, recover, and thrive upon release.

This week, I was pleased to see the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) approve New Hampshire’s Section 1115 Medicaid demonstration waiver. This extension will allow New Hampshire to better coordinate treatment and care services for inmates, help reduce recidivism rates, and most importantly, improve health outcomes for justice-involved individuals when they reenter their communities.

Together, we can reduce the stigma around mental health and support our friends, loved ones, and neighbors in need.
