The far-right is waging a war on women’s health care, John.

Just last month, the Supreme Court took up a lawsuit filed by a group of anti-abortion physicians challenging the FDA’s approval of mifepristone — a medication abortion pill that accounts for most abortions in the U.S.

Thankfully, SCOTUS ruled that mifepristone CAN continue to be sold in states where abortion is legal. Yet some of the biggest pharmaceutical companies, including Walmart, Costco, Kroger, Albertsons, and McKesson have still not put mifepristone on their shelves.

Well, John, New York City’s pension funds hold over $1.3 billion in total shares of these companies. As NYC Comptroller, I’m using every tool at my disposal to ensure that pharmaceutical giants do their duty to provide medication abortion for women who need it.

My office just issued a warning to Walmart, Costco, Kroger, Albertsons, and McKesson that they must immediately get the certification they need to sell mifepristone in states where it is legal. Doing so is not only good for long-term shareholder value – but it’s necessary to protect women’s reproductive health care.

If you’re with me in this fight, please join me in calling on Walmart, Costco, Kroger, Albertsons, and McKesson to take the necessary steps to sell mifepristone through their pharmacies and provide essential reproductive care: [[link removed]]

Our fight to defend abortion access is nowhere near over. We’re likely to face an extreme, anti-abortion Supreme Court for years to come.

But when we come together, we have what it takes to stand up for our freedoms.

And I’ll always ensure that New York City remains a haven for reproductive health care, including contraception and abortion care, regardless of health insurance or income.

In solidarity,

Brad
