The moments of violence and the media firestorm will leave a mark on Butler, but the city that invented the Jeep vows not to be stopped by an outsider’s act

The attempt to assassinate former President Donald Trump at the Butler Farm Show grounds on Saturday brought anxiety about our civic and political polarization to a boil. PublicSource invited readers to share their reactions. Higher education reporter Emma Folts talked to political experts about what the assassination attempt might mean for the nation.

In other local news, Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato and the Board of Health will create a panel to look at housing health codes and enforcement. The county is also facing scrutiny over progress toward a climate action plan. An annual PublicSource analysis of salaries at Pittsburgh Public Schools shows increased earnings, racial wage gaps and staffing issues.
