We have a small window to press the new government on this most vital of issues. Labour has so far resisted calls to ban arms sales to Israel, saying only that it will review the situation. Just last weekend, the foreign secretary posed for a photo with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu during a visit to Israel. But as the bloodbath in Gaza continues, pressure is building on ministers to act.

Hi John,
The horror which the Israeli government is inflicting on Gaza has become an obscene symbol of Western double standards. For us, as campaigners in a country which still supplies weapons to Israel, it’s increasingly difficult to battle a deep feeling of despair.
But the new government does bring us new opportunities, and so we must use this moment to demand change as loudly as possible. The next few weeks will be critical, which is why we’re asking for your support to help us ramp up our campaign to stop arming Israel.
In the coming weeks, we will be working with lawyers, with politicians, with the media and with other campaign groups to get this message over to the government as clearly as possible. We’ll be organising new actions, campaign stunts and legal challenges.

Labour’s position on Gaza to date has been unacceptably weak. Although they have voiced concern about UK-made weapons possibly being used in war crimes, especially in Israel's brutal assault on Rafah, they have stopped short of demanding an arms embargo. And they’ve said nothing about other levers, like our trade relations, which could be used to pressure Israel into ending its war crimes in Gaza.
But the government is going to discover very quickly that if they want to reset relations with the global south, as they’ve promised, this issue will come up again and again. And we need to make sure they get the message loud and clear here at home too. As the new foreign secretary assesses the UK position on Gaza, we will make one thing very clear: British complicity in war crimes must end.
Most urgently, this means demanding an arms embargo, which will send a clear message to Israel that there must be a ceasefire immediately. But this isn’t sufficient, and we also want to further investigate other pressure points, for example, challenging our trade relationship with Israel.
But we can't do this alone. The first 100 days of the new government will be a hectic and pivotal period, and we must ensure that one thing becomes clear: there is no road to re-engaging the global south which does not run through Gaza.

The pictures coming out of Gaza are among the most horrifying images of inhumanity I have ever witnessed. I find it unconscionable that, not only has our government up to now done nothing to help bring this suffering to an end, they have been actively aiding the aggressor.
We must seize every opportunity we have to change things. In the coming weeks, the new government will be cementing their priorities for their first 100 days in office. Help us to ensure that Gaza is an issue they cannot ignore.
