I’m going to try to make this quick because I’m still in (virtual) class, but some pretty big news came out about the NRA last night that is so bad I just had to share.
To quote LaPierre himself [[link removed]] : “ What we did in order to survive and adjust is we took in 2019 and 2020... about $80 million in real costs out of the NRA budget...I mean we kinda reframed this entire Association, we took it down to the studs. " Yikes .
The NRA has been in a massive tailspin since 2018 -- right after March For Our Lives co-founders, members, and marchers (like you!) started exposing their corruption and holding them accountable for their actions. Since 2018, we’ve been working to show that today’s NRA is not your grandfather’s NRA. They’re no longer an organization for marksmen and firearm trainings -- they’re one of our country’s largest corporate lobbies, pushing weapons of war into our communities, defending police brutality, throwing millions at PR stunts, and misusing funds to enrich their top leadership.
You’ve been with us in this fight for a long time. We’re a grassroots movement that started with a bunch of angry teens, ready to shake things up. Now, the NRA is on the brink of shutdown because of your support, your activism, and our collective action. If you can, please consider making a donation to invest in the work our movement is doing to bring accountability to the NRA and end their grip on our nation's politics. Just two years after our movement started, their national favorability has tanked [[link removed]] , they’re being investigated by the New York [[link removed]] and D.C. attorneys general, eight board members have resigned, they’ve had to implement massive layoffs, and now they’re bleeding cash fighting legal battles brought forward by our gun violence prevention allies.
This is another reminder of what we can do when we work together. I truly believe that if we continue this fight, we can stop the NRA and their corruption once and for all.
