The Attempted Assassination of Former President Trump and the Need to Reject Political Violence

On Saturday, the country was shocked and sickened by the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, leaving one attendee of the event dead in addition to the shooter. Following the attack, I joined colleagues from both sides of the aisle in condemning the shooting and calling on all Americans to reject all forms of political violence. As a member of the Oversight and Intelligence Committees, I called for Congressional briefings to address what went wrong and how we ensure it does not happen again. On Monday, I’ll join my colleagues in a hearing of the House Oversight Committee to question the leaders of the Secret Service on the attack as we continue to seek out answers.

Renaming the St. Charles Post Office in Honor of Vietnam War Veterans

On Wednesday, I joined with local leaders and veterans in St. Charles to celebrate the official renaming of the St. Charles East Side Station Post Office to the Veterans of the Vietnam War Memorial Post Office. The name change comes after legislation I championed passed the House and Senate unanimously and was signed into law by President Joe Biden earlier this year. Of the 58,000 Americans who were killed serving our country during the Vietnam War, roughly 3,000 of them were Illinoisans. The ripple effects of one of the longest wars in American history can still be felt today, and it is my hope that by renaming this post office in honor of the brave Americans who risked and sacrificed so much for our country, our district never forgets their service.

Securing Nearly $2.5 million for Three Projects in Our District

This week, I joined with local leaders and members of four communities across our district to celebrate nearly $2.5 million in federal funding I secured for three much-needed projects. On Monday, I was in Pingree Grove to present $959,752 in federal funding that will go toward improving water quality throughout the village as well as maintaining water standards that will impact the entire Fox River Valley Watershed.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi joins with Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle as he awards $500,000 in federal funding to improve Central Road in Hoffman Estates and South Barrington.

On Tuesday in Hoffman Estates, I joined with leaders including Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle to celebrate $500,000 in federal funding I secured to help make improvements to Central Road from Barrington Road to Huntington Boulevard. The federal funding, combined with state and local funds, will improve a 1.3-mile stretch along Central Road and create a multi-use path that will connect to the two communities’ expansive network of walking trails. The much-needed improvements will improve the stretch for residents and businesses along the route. You can read further about the project in the Daily Herald here.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi presents the East Dundee branch of the Fox River Valley Public Library with $1 million in federal funding to make the building ADA compliant.

Finally, on Tuesday, I was also in East Dundee to award its branch of the Fox River Valley Public Library with $1 million in federal funding to make the campus Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant. All public buildings should be accessible to everyone. Once these building improvements are complete, East Dundee’s library will be open to all community members for all its events and gatherings as well as day-to-day use.

Countering Anti-Competitive Trade Practices by the CCP and Protecting American Workers

This week, I visited Custom Aluminum Products in Genoa to meet with the company’s workers and leadership to discuss the importance of countering anti-competitive trade practices by countries like the People’s Republic of China (PRC). As Ranking Member of the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), I have worked to counter the CCP’s numerous predatory trade practices, including forced labor and “dumping"—selling government-subsidized products below cost to drive competitors out of business—before ultimately squeezing consumers with huge price hikes. Custom Aluminum Products is one of the many American companies that has been forced to contend with the CCP’s unfair tactics, and earlier this year, I partnered with dozens of my colleagues from both parties to call on the Department of Commerce to crack down on the dumping of Chinese aluminum into the American market. When American workers and businesses are able to compete on a level playing field, we win. That’s exactly why we need to end unfair trade practices by our adversaries, like the CCP.
