Governor DeWine released a statement following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania:

The following is a statement from Governor DeWine on the choice of Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as President Trump's running mate:
"Congratulations to Ohio’s Senator J.D. Vance on being chosen by President Trump to be his running mate.
"J.D. is a father, military veteran, best-selling author, and has served Ohio well as our U.S. Senator. In addition, J.D.’s unique life story will resonate with Republicans and Independent voters across the country.
"J.D. will also bring a new generational perspective to the ticket.
"A son of Middletown, Ohio, J.D. can relate to the many Americans who are struggling right now to make ends meet in this era of crushing inflation, and a housing market that is unaffordable and shutting many out of a chance at achieving the American dream.
"J.D. also knows that securing our border is imperative.
"President Trump has made a great choice and Senator Vance will be a great partner as they campaign together this fall."

Two years after its debut, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a proven safety net for thousands of Ohioans each month who face emotional distress or thoughts of suicide.
“988 is saving lives,” said Governor DeWine. “The lifeline is providing free, around-the-clock support to Ohioans in crisis by connecting them with someone to talk to for help at the moment it’s needed most. I am proud of the impact 988 has made in two short years and we fully intend to continue building on that momentum moving forward.”
Since its launch on July 16, 2022, the service has grown steadily. In that time, Ohio’s 19 call centers – the most of any state in the nation – have responded to nearly 340,000 calls, texts, and chats: an average of more than 14,000 contacts each month.

Governor DeWine announced the launch of a new traffic safety corridor focused on increasing seat belt usage and reducing speed-related crashes on a dangerous eight-mile stretch of I-90 in Cuyahoga County.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), Cuyahoga County is the top county in the state for speed-related and unbelted crashes, including many on the eight miles of I-90 between East 55th Street and East 260th Street. Since 2021, approximately one-third of all crashes on this stretch of I-90 involved motorists who were not wearing an available seat belt.
Through a new partnership between OSHP, the Ohio Department of Transportation, Cleveland Police Department, Euclid Police Department, and Bratenahl Police Department, this stretch of interstate has now been designated as the state's first Speed & Seat Belt Safety Corridor. An increased number of troopers and officers will patrol this zone and have no tolerance for those who violate speeding and seat belt laws.
"Officers and troopers are constantly encountering drivers on this section of I-90 who are driving recklessly with no care for their own safety or the safety of others," said Governor DeWine. "We're giving this stretch of I-90 extra attention because many of the fatal and severe-injury crashes here could have been prevented with lower speeds and seat belts."

Ohio is becoming a soccer haven this summer, welcoming fans to an exciting lineup of national events, top-tier matches, and several opportunities to see international soccer stars in action.
“Ohioans are passionate about soccer, and we’re excited to cheer on the incredible talent from around the world as we celebrate several high-profile matches in Ohio,” said Governor DeWine. “Ohio is a premier host for world-class sporting events and thrilling competition. When it comes to sports, Ohio is truly the ‘Heart of it All.’”

Governor DeWine and Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Director Bruce Vanderhoff, M.D., MBA, announced that Ohio is significantly expanding its capabilities to screen newborns for different types of cystic fibrosis.
Today, ODH informed the Newborn Screening Advisory Council that it will increase its testing for rare mutations of cystic fibrosis. When the increased testing begins this fall, Ohio will join just a handful of states in screening for the maximum number of mutations possible by laboratory testing.
“Getting the earliest possible diagnosis and a head start on treatment is absolutely critical to ensure those born with cystic fibrosis can lead a healthier life,” said Governor DeWine. “By expanding our testing capabilities to catch even the rarest forms of this disease at birth, Ohio will be giving every child and every family the best chance for the best possible outcome.”

Governor DeWine has appealed the federal government's denial of his request for a Presidential Disaster Declaration for eight counties impacted by a series of severe storms, flooding, and tornadoes in early April.
The weather events took place on April 1-4, 2024, causing significant damage to critical public infrastructure in Belmont, Monroe, Jefferson, Guernsey, Noble, Washington, Morgan, and Meigs counties.
"I have determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and the affected local governments and that supplementary federal assistance is necessary," wrote Governor DeWine. "The greatest impact is damage to critical infrastructure in low tax revenue areas, making the expensive repairs needed with their own budgets not feasible."
TourismOhio is celebrating National Ice Cream Day this July 21 by inviting Ohioans to grab a cone, bowl, or treat at one of the more than 50 stops along the newly expanded Ohio Ice Cream Trail.
“When Fran and I travel the state with our kids and grandkids, we will go out of our way for locally made ice cream because it’s something you simply won’t get anywhere else,” said Governor DeWine. “We’ve been going to Young’s Jersey Dairy near our home in Greene County since we were teenagers, and it certainly is one of our favorites, but no matter what ice cream shop you visit along the trail, it’s going to be delicious.”

Cincinnati is on the list of potential host cities for the Sundance Film Festival. The festival's contract with Park City, Utah is set to expire in 2026. Following the news, Governor DeWine issued the following statement:
"Both Cincinnati and Ohio pride ourselves on being a world-class destination where movies are made and celebrated. And whatever the entertainment is—creative, cultural, or sports—Cincinnati is known for being a city that knows how to do big things," Governor DeWine said. "We love to roll out the red carpet and will do the same for a festival as iconic as the Sundance Film Festival."
