Dear John,
I am going to get right to the point: We have an updated estimate of the cost for the recount challenge, and it will be about $150,000, including legal fees, or nearly double the first estimate we received. With the number of contributors to our campaign, this is a very manageable figure, but I need your help ASAP.
We had the first preliminary hearing for the recount yesterday at the Goochland County Circuit Court. The three-judge panel has been named, and the recount will take place on August 1, after initially being set for July 31.
Will you please help me today with your best possible contribution to the recount fund? I am depending on the help of friends like you to ensure the accuracy of this election. Your contribution will help me pay the costs required by the Commonwealth of Virginia to conduct the recount, and the attorney fees for me to be represented throughout the process.
We will be working to correct mistakes and errors that effected the results that were reported. We will be working to challenge irregularities, failures to follow required procedures, and failures to protect or ensure the integrity of the ballots. We will be working to include ballots that should have been counted. And we will be seeking a hand recount that matches the paper ballots to the reported machine results.
All of this requires resources, and the help of friends like you. This recount is necessary because the outcome of this race will impact our ability to hold this seat in November, and the ability of President Trump to win Virginia.

Thank you for the privilege of being your congressman. May God bless you, and may God continue to bless America
