The “Brain Trust” Behind Trump Also Shapes JD Vance’s “Worldview”
July 19, 2024
Dear John,
To say these past two weeks have been a rollercoaster is an understatement. First, the attempted assassination of President Trump left us horrified, angry, but determined. But then, when the news broke that Senator J.D. Vance had been selected as his running mate, we were jubilant.
This is a gratifying moment for the Claremont Institute. Indeed, as Senator Vance said recently, “the Claremont [ Institute’s] Center for the American Way of Life is doing incredible work to restore the American system. Their analysis and acumen have been invaluable for my work in the United States Senate.”
But—and I say this with modesty—we already knew he considers Claremont invaluable.
We knew it because he hired Jacob Reses (Publius, 2016) as his Chief of Staff. And James Braid (Lincoln, 2019) as his Deputy Chief of Staff. And William Martin (Lincoln, 2024) as his Press Secretary
And we knew it long before Politico, who just this week published an article describing the Claremont Institute as one of the seven thinkers or groups that have “shaped” Vance’s “worldview.”
The influence of the Claremont Institute is greater today than at any point in our history. We always strive to use this influence to benefit our country and fellow citizens, by pressing the fight to recover the American idea and defend the American way of life—with your help.
The mission of the Claremont Institute is to restore the principles of the American Founding to their rightful, preeminent authority in our national life.
